TAS Company

Careers

TAS has no roles posted. That is the honest state of things, and this page exists to say what the business will need rather than to imply a hiring process that is not running yet.

Where TAS actually is

TAS is pre-launch. What exists today is a complete, working storefront built against a detailed product specification: a catalogue of parent products, variants and supplier offers; a live shipping quote; a compliance gate at the address step; and multi-shipment tracking. What does not exist yet is a live catalogue service, real payments, real accounts, a maintained compliance table, or a single shipped order.

So there is no headcount to quote, no offices to describe, no benefits package to list and no funding announcement to point at. Anything we wrote here about those would be invention, and this site has a rule against inventing numbers.

What we can describe accurately is the shape of the work. TAS is a retailer with a multi-supplier back end — we buy from independent suppliers and sell to the customer as merchant of record, with stock sitting in 6 warehouses across the country. Almost every hard problem in the business comes from that one fact, and the sections below are the disciplines it takes to solve them.

The work this business needs

Five areas. None of them is currently an open position — these are the jobs the business has to do, described so you can tell whether yours is one of them.

01

Supplier and distributor relationships

The catalogue is only as good as the warehouses behind it. This is the work of finding suppliers, getting them listed, and holding them to what they promised.

What it would own

  • Sourcing and onboarding distributors and warehouses, and negotiating the terms TAS sells on.
  • Verifying that every supplier holds current federal and state credentials for what they list, and re-verifying rather than trusting a file.
  • Holding suppliers to a published daily cutoff, because a product page that says 'order in 2h 14m and it ships today' is only honest if the warehouse keeps it.
  • Allocation during shortages — deciding who gets what when a caliber goes scarce, which happens in this category more than in most.
  • Cost negotiation, because TAS buys and resells rather than taking a commission, so the buy price is the margin.

Who tends to fit: Someone who has bought or sold in firearms distribution, sporting goods, or another regulated wholesale category, and who is comfortable telling a supplier their inventory feed is not good enough.

02

Compliance operations

Ammunition retail is federally unlicensed and heavily state-regulated. The restriction data behind checkout is the single most consequential table in the business.

What it would own

  • Building and maintaining the jurisdiction table that decides which addresses we can ship to, at state, county and municipal level.
  • Tracking legislative change and getting rules updated before they bite, not after a customer finds the gap.
  • Age verification, permit and FOID document handling, and the review workflow behind held orders.
  • Order review for quantities inconsistent with personal use, and the escalation path when something looks wrong.
  • Working with counsel on policy language, and owning the audit trail that shows a rule was applied and when.

Who tends to fit: Someone from firearms or ammunition retail compliance, regulated e-commerce, or a paralegal or regulatory background who is willing to own an operational system rather than only advise on one.

03

Fulfilment and logistics

One order can leave up to 6 buildings and arrive as several deliveries on different days, and the customer is charged one shipping amount. Making that work is the hard part of this business.

What it would own

  • Order routing — deciding which warehouse fills which line, and consolidating toward warehouses already in play.
  • Carrier relationships and rate negotiation for ORM-D / Limited Quantity ground freight with adult signature required.
  • Split-shipment tracking: one order, many shipments, each with its own carrier, number and dated estimate, and an order status derived from all of them.
  • The shipping quote itself — weight modelling by caliber, zone rating, and the floor and ceiling that keep a fragmented order from either losing money or losing the customer.
  • Exception handling: stockouts after acceptance, damaged parcels, refused deliveries, and carrier claims we open so the customer does not have to.

Who tends to fit: Someone who has run multi-node fulfilment or 3PL operations, ideally with hazmat or regulated freight experience, and who thinks in unit economics rather than in tickets.

04

Customer support that knows the product

We have said publicly that ammunition questions get answered by people who shoot. That is a hiring commitment, not a marketing line.

What it would own

  • Answering order, shipping, return and membership questions well enough that most of them stop recurring.
  • Answering product questions properly — whether a 77gr load will stabilise in a 1:9 twist, what separates a 124gr NATO from a standard 124gr FMJ, which .308 match load a rifle tends to like.
  • Recognising a safety report for what it is, pulling it out of the queue, and getting the lot number to the right people the same day.
  • Feeding the FAQ and the policy pages from what people actually ask, so the site answers the question next time.
  • Being the person who says 'do not order that, it is the wrong cartridge for your rifle' before the order is placed, given ammunition is not returnable for change of mind.

Who tends to fit: A shooter with real range and reloading knowledge who can write clearly, plus support experience. The product knowledge is the harder half to teach.

05

Engineering

A three-level catalogue of parents, variants and supplier offers, a live shipping quote, a compliance gate at the address step, and multi-shipment tracking. Front end, back end and data.

What it would own

  • The storefront: Next.js and React, server components, a design system that leads with caliber and prints price per round at full weight.
  • Catalogue and inventory ingestion from supplier feeds, and the offer selection that picks a winner on landed cost rather than list price.
  • Checkout: quoting, tax by destination, the compliance step, payments, and the order and shipment model underneath tracking.
  • Accessibility as a build requirement rather than an audit finding — semantics, keyboard paths, contrast, touch targets.
  • The internal tooling that lets operations model shipping margin and see where an order actually went.

Who tends to fit: Product-minded engineers who like commerce problems with real constraints, and who can hold a conversation about why a number is what it is.

Putting your name forward anyway

We read speculative applications, and at this stage they are the only kind there is. If one of the areas above is your work, write to careers@topammosupply.com and put the area in the subject line.

What is worth including

  • Which of the five areas you are writing about, and what you have actually done in it.
  • A CV or a link to your work. For engineering, code we can read beats a description of code we cannot.
  • For supplier, compliance or logistics work: the regulated categories you have operated in, and the scale you ran.
  • For support: what you shoot, and something you know about ammunition that most retail staff do not.
  • Whether you need to be remote, and any location constraint. We are not going to pretend we know where the desks will be.

What happens next, honestly: we keep it on file, and we come back to it when a role opens. We do not run interviews for positions that do not exist, and we will not string you along through a process with nothing at the end of it. If we are not going to be in touch, we would rather have told you that at the start.

Recruitment agencies: please do not send unsolicited candidates. We are not engaging agencies at this stage and unsolicited introductions do not create a fee arrangement.
