Shipping Policy
Last updated August 9, 2026
This page explains how we quote shipping, why an order can arrive in more than one delivery, and the carrier rules that apply because ammunition is a regulated hazardous material.
Phase 1 note: this document is a structurally complete template. It has not yet been reviewed by counsel and must be before any real sale is made.
1. How shipping is quoted
You see one shipping charge on your order. It is quoted live against the ZIP code you enter at the delivery step of checkout, and it is calculated from three things: handling, the billable weight of the goods, and the delivery zone.
- Weight is real. Ammunition is heavy (a 1,000-round case of 5.56 NATO is around 28.0 lb) and we model weight per round by caliber rather than charging a flat rate that overcharges small orders to subsidise large ones.
- Zone is measured from the warehouse that is furthest from you. If your order pulls from Nevada and Tennessee to a Georgia address, the quote is built on the Nevada leg, because that is the leg that actually costs.
- Handling is charged per shipment. The first shipment on an order carries $4.99 of handling, and each additional shipment adds $3.99. It is itemised under “Handling” in the cart, in the cart drawer and in the checkout summary, so you can see it before you pay. Section 3 explains why an order can have more than one shipment.
- The minimum shipping charge is $17.98 on a single-shipment order. No order ships for less than that. Ground freight on a hazardous-material parcel with an adult signature has a real floor, and pretending otherwise would mean putting the difference into the product price.
- The maximum is $49.99 on a single-shipment order. Where the true cost of a heavy, long-zone order runs above that, we absorb the overage.
- Both the minimum and the maximum scale with the number of shipments. Each shipment after the first raises the minimum by $7.99 and the maximum by $8.00. So an order that ships from three warehouses sits between $41.94 and $65.99 rather than between $17.98 and $49.99. These are bounds, not the price: the quote you are shown at your ZIP is the number you pay.
Sales tax is calculated separately at checkout on the delivery address, and in some states applies to the shipping charge as well as the goods.
2. When shipping is free
- Orders over $300 ship free. The threshold is measured on the pre-tax subtotal after any discounts, not on the order total.
- TAS+ members ship free on every order, with no minimum. One box of 9mm ships free the same way a pallet of 5.56 does. The benefit applies from the moment the membership is active, including on the order you join with.
Free shipping covers standard ground service to the contiguous United States. It does not cover a signature upgrade, a delivery reschedule requested after dispatch, or the return shipping on a change-of-mind accessory return, which are covered in the Returns & Refunds Policy.
3. Why orders arrive separately
TAS is the seller on every order, and the stock behind it is held across several supply partners’ warehouses, each in its own part of the country. When your order contains items that live in different warehouses, each warehouse packs and ships its own part of it on our behalf.
So an order can arrive as two, three or four deliveries, from different carriers’ hubs, on different days, with a tracking number each. That is not a mistake, a delay, or a partial fulfilment. It is how a multi-warehouse catalog reaches your door, and it is the reason we can show you the cheapest in-stock box of a caliber instead of only what one warehouse happens to hold.
The part that matters to you is this: you are charged for shipping once, on the order, no matter how many warehouses ship it, and there is never a second shipping charge later. A four-warehouse order costs us four separate outbound fulfilment charges, and we absorb most of that rather than hand it to you.
What the single quoted line does include is a small handling component for each shipment: $4.99 on the first and $3.99 on every shipment after it. So a split order does cost a few dollars more than the same weight going to the same ZIP from one warehouse. It is a handling step, not a second freight charge, and it is itemised in front of you before you pay (in the cart, in the cart drawer and in the checkout summary), never discovered afterwards. Once you place the order, the shipping total is fixed.
Where an item can be re-sourced to a warehouse already shipping your order, the cart offers you that consolidation and shows what it saves. That is the one lever that reliably brings the charge down, so we put it in front of you rather than keep it.
What you see, and when:
- In the cart: items are grouped by the warehouse that will ship them, each group headed with its own ship date. Nothing is hidden until after you pay.
- In the cart, sometimes: a consolidation nudge, where an item can be re-sourced to a warehouse already shipping your order so it arrives with the rest. Taking it is optional; the price difference is always shown before you accept.
- At review: a per-shipment breakdown with a dated arrival estimate for each one, and one shipping total.
- After you order: a tracking page with a card per shipment, each with its own carrier, tracking number and status, and an order-level summary such as “2 of 3 delivered”.
4. A worked example
A $508.95 order placed on Tuesday, 11 August 2026 at 3:45 PM ET, delivering to Austin, TX 78704. Three items, three warehouses, two different dispatch days, and one shipping charge of $0.00.
| Shipment | Items | Ships from | Cutoff | Dispatched | Arrives after dispatch |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 of 3 | 1,000 rd case, 5.56 NATO 55gr FMJ (28.0 lb) | Sparks, NV (Sparks, NV) | 3:00 PM PT | Tue 11 Aug | 4 to 5 business days |
| 2 of 3 | 2 × 20 rd box, .308 Winchester 168gr match (2.2 lb) | Prescott, AZ (Prescott, AZ) | 4:00 PM MT | Tue 11 Aug | 4 to 5 business days |
| 3 of 3 | Range bag, electronic ear protection (5.4 lb) | Greenville, SC (Greenville, SC) | 3:30 PM ET | Wed 12 Aug | 4 to 5 business days |
Three parcels, three tracking numbers, three arrival dates. One shipping charge of $0.00, billed once. Shipment 3 dispatched a day later because 3:45 PM Eastern is past Greenville, SC’s 3:30 PM ET cutoff. The same moment is inside the cutoff at Sparks and Prescott, so those left on the Tuesday.
The estimate counts business days from dispatch, not calendar days. Shipment 3 leaves a day later than the others, so it arrives a day later than they do, and a weekend in between moves it further still: nothing moves for us on a Saturday or a Sunday. We estimate the journey rather than naming a day for it, because the journey is the carrier's and the dispatch is ours.
Here is the whole shipping charge, line by line:
| Component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Handling: first shipment | $4.99 |
| Handling: 2 extra shipments at $3.99 each | $7.98 |
| Distance and weight: 37.4 lb, zone 6 | $34.42 |
| Total shipping charged | $0.00 |
The zone is measured on the Greenville, SC warehouse, because that is the warehouse furthest from Austin and therefore the leg that costs. On a three-shipment order the charge has to fall between $41.94 and $65.99 (see section 1), and $0.00 sits inside that range, so neither bound applies here.
Had all three items happened to sit in one warehouse at the same zone, the two extra handling steps would not have applied and the charge would have been $0.00 for the same weight to the same ZIP. The difference, $0.00, is the whole of what the split costs you, and it is itemised above rather than buried in a single shipping number. The cart no longer offers to consolidate: which warehouse holds an item is not something you choose or can change, so an invitation to move one was advice nobody could take.
This order was $0.00 short of the $300 free-shipping threshold, and the cart says so while you are still in it. Over the threshold, or on a TAS+ membership, the entire $0.00, handling included, is zero.
5. Cutoff times and dispatch
Every warehouse has its own daily cutoff. Orders that clear payment and compliance screening before a warehouse’s cutoff are picked and dispatched the same business day; orders after it go out the next business day.
| Warehouse | Location | Cutoff |
|---|---|---|
| Martinsburg, WV | Martinsburg, WV | 4:00 PM ET |
| Lorton, VA | Lorton, VA | 4:00 PM ET |
| Woodbridge, VA | Woodbridge, VA | 4:00 PM ET |
| Sparks, NV | Sparks, NV | 3:00 PM PT |
| Chattanooga, TN | Chattanooga, TN | 2:00 PM ET |
| Prescott, AZ | Prescott, AZ | 4:00 PM MT |
| Toledo, OH | Toledo, OH | 1:00 PM ET |
| Greenville, SC | Greenville, SC | 3:30 PM ET |
| Waco, TX | Waco, TX | 12:00 PM CT |
Because the cutoffs differ, one part of an order can leave today while another leaves tomorrow. The cart and the tracking page always show the dispatch date we expect for each shipment rather than a single order-wide promise we cannot keep.
Warehouses do not dispatch on weekends or on federal holidays. Orders held for a permit or licence check dispatch once the check clears, and we email you when that happens.
6. Ground only, never air
Ammunition is classified as ORM-D / Limited Quantity (UN0012, UN0014) Cartridges, Small Arms and moves under hazardous-materials rules. That produces hard constraints, none of which are ours to waive:
- Ground service only. There is no expedited, overnight, two-day or air option for ammunition, at any price.
- No USPS. Live ammunition is non-mailable matter and cannot travel in the mail stream. Accessories can and sometimes do.
- Approved carriers only. Ammunition ships with carriers who accept ORM-D / Limited Quantity ground freight, on properly marked and labelled packaging, packed to the carrier’s specification.
- Weight and packing limits mean a large order may be split into multiple parcels from the same warehouse. That is a packing decision, not an extra charge.
Accessories with no hazard classification (optics, bags, targets, cleaning kits, storage) are not bound by these rules and may travel by a different service, which is one more reason an order can arrive in pieces.
7. Adult signature on delivery
Every ammunition shipment requires an adult signature at delivery. Someone 21 or older must be present with valid government-issued photo ID to sign. The carrier will not leave ammunition at the door, with a neighbour, in a garage, or in a parcel locker, and it will not accept a signature waiver from you.
Plan for it. If nobody can be home, use the carrier’s hold-at- location service once you have the tracking number, or ship to a work address where an adult will be present during business hours. Carriers normally attempt delivery three times before returning the parcel to the supplier; a return caused by no adult being available is refunded less the outbound and return shipping actually incurred.
8. Delivery estimates
Every date we show is an estimate in business days, excluding weekends and federal holidays, and it is not a guarantee. Ground transit times are set by the carrier and are affected by weather, network volume, and the distance from the shipping warehouse to you.
We do not offer guaranteed or date-certain delivery on ammunition, because the carrier does not offer it to us. If a shipment is materially late we will chase the carrier on your behalf; see section 11.
9. Addresses we cannot serve
Ammunition cannot be delivered to:
- PO boxes: the carriers that handle ORM-D ground freight do not deliver to them, and a signature cannot be collected at one.
- APO, FPO and DPO addresses: these route through the military postal system, which is USPS, and live ammunition is non-mailable.
- Freight forwarders and parcel-consolidation addresses: we cannot verify the final destination or the recipient, so we do not ship to them.
- Addresses outside the United States. See section 12.
A residential or commercial street address where an adult can sign is required. Accessory-only orders can sometimes go to a PO box or an APO/FPO address; if your order mixes accessories with ammunition, give us a street address for the whole order.
10. Restricted destinations
Several states, cities and counties restrict who may receive ammunition, require a permit or licence first, or prohibit direct-to-consumer shipment entirely. Where we cannot lawfully deliver, the order is blocked at the address step with a plain explanation rather than failing silently later.
We do not ship ammunition to California, New York, the District of Columbia and Massachusetts. Each of those requires the transfer to happen in person or through an in-state licensee, so no parcel we send can satisfy the rule. New York City adds its own permit rule on top of the state one. Accessories still ship to every one of them.
We ship ammunition to Colorado, Illinois, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Connecticut only once something has been collected and checked. Illinois needs a FOID card or concealed carry licence plus an Illinois driver’s licence or State ID, and the parcel may go only to an address printed on one of them. Rhode Island needs a Rhode Island blue card or hunter education card. Colorado requires the carrier to verify 21 or older against photo ID at the door. New Jersey needs an FPIC or a permit for handgun ammunition, and Connecticut needs a certificate or permit. The order waits until that is done, and we email you for whatever is missing rather than cancelling it.
Hawaii, Alaska and the US territories are a carrier limit rather than a legal one. ORM-D / Limited Quantity ground service does not reach them, so ammunition delivery is unavailable to those ZIP codes even though state law permits the sale. Cook County and Chicago add a local per-round tax whose enforceability is unsettled. We do not add it at checkout.
Every other state receives ammunition normally, subject to the age minimums that apply there and to the carrier rules in section 6. Several states set an age above the federal floor, and Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii and Rhode Island reach 21 on more than handgun ammunition.
The list that governs your order is the one applied at checkout against your delivery ZIP, and it changes as law changes. The full picture, with the statute behind each restriction, the state age rules and the magazine-capacity limits, is on the Compliance & Restrictions page. Restrictions on accessories are usually narrower than on ammunition, so a blocked ammunition line does not necessarily block the whole order.
11. If your order is lost or damaged
Every order is covered, at no charge. Risk of loss stays with TAS until the carrier delivers to the address on your order. If a shipment is lost in transit, or arrives damaged, tell us within 14 days of the last carrier scan and we will replace it or refund it. There is no fee for this and there is nothing to buy at checkout. It is not an add-on, an upgrade or an insurance policy, and we do not sell one. It is simply the deal.
We handle the carrier claim; you never do. Recovering the value of a lost or damaged parcel from UPS or FedEx is our problem, not yours, and your replacement or refund does not wait on the outcome. You do not need to file anything with the carrier, chase a claim number, or prove what the goods were worth.
What we need from you is only what lets us act. Inspect every parcel on arrival. If the outer carton is crushed, torn, wet, or shows loose contents, note the damage with the driver before you sign if you can, and photograph the packaging and the contents before moving anything. Then email support@topammosupply.com with your order number, the shipment number, and the photographs. Report damage within 7 days of delivery and a lost shipment within 14 days of the last carrier scan. Do not fire ammunition from a visibly damaged carton: return it to us and we will replace it.
What this covers is loss and damage in transit. It runs from dispatch until the carrier records delivery to your address. It does not cover a parcel that goes missing after it has been delivered. A theft from a porch or a mailroom is not a transit loss, and we are not able to stand behind what happens at an address once the carrier has handed the goods over. That is the reason ammunition ships with an adult signature required: a parcel that has to be signed for is not left unattended in the first place. See section 7.
12. International shipping
TAS ships within the United States only. We do not ship ammunition or accessories internationally, and we cannot ship to a US-based freight forwarder for onward export. Exporting ammunition is regulated under US export control law and is outside what this business does. Orders with an international billing address and a valid US delivery address are accepted subject to fraud screening.
